14,531 doors knocked on / People are concerned

The continued support by the volunteers and supporters is amazing. We walked for only two hours last night. We had nine people walking. On a week night nine people turned off their televisions for a couple of hours, walked away from their computers and went out to help fight for a candidate that will WORK to bring some common sense back to our Legislature.

I continue to have a great time talking with people as we knock on their doors. For anyone who has never walked up to a stranger’s door with a message let me tell you, it is a rush. The person on other side could smile and say hello, they could scream at you and call you every name in the book, or they could just not answer. The key is being able to handle whatever happens. I have had a couple of the screamers. They either make an instant decision about you because of party affiliation, or they are just frustrated with the status of the government. Either way, their concerns are just as important as the person who welcomes us with open arms. Too many times politicians have only been concerned with their party or their voters. They only represent the side that got them elected. I have a problem with this. I believe politicians will vote according to their beliefs. The problem comes when their constituents want a different solution than that of the politician. That is when ego's must be put away and the representative or Senator must listen to their voters. Not because they may lose a vote, but, because they are sent to the Legislature to represent the voices of the public. It is time to elect people who are responsible to their constituents. It is time to get those who are not representing their constituents out of office.

I was asked two questions over the past two weeks that I find particularly interesting. The first was, What are you going to do for me? My answer was, Nothing. I am going to work to make governemnt get out of the way so that your efforts can pay off. The interesting part of this question is that It is not the governemnts responsibility to do for People it is their job to keep the government out of the peoples way. I explained this to the gentleman and he was very happy to tell me that every politicaian that had come by over the years, couldn't wait to tell him what they were going to do for him. He then told me he was a life long Democrat and this was the first time he would vote for a Republican. The second question was: Will you vote your consience or will you vote the concience of your constituents when you are in office? I knew where he was coming from. All we have heard over the past two years, both in our state and on the federal level, is that they are voting their conciences. I told him that I would vote according to the constitution, then by the constituents, then by my wife then my concience. The order is simple, our constitution is the guide of our law and lives, the constituents are who I will represent, my wife has the interests of our home and child, and My consience is about the least importatnt part of the equation. If I follow the first two, I won't need the second two. If I do, my wife is my concience. When I explained this to him, he said he was tired of politicians voting this way because it was a smoke screen. It had nothing to do with the people or the constitution.

I have had Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, American Constitutionists, Republicans and people who have never voted, that are saying they will support our campaign. This isn't because I am Republican, this is because they have met me and asked me questions that are important to them. They related to my answers and me. So, let me ask you, why is our government out of touch with the constituents? Two reasons: 1. Many of the people are very unhappy with what the government has become and they do not trust any government agent. This is because of being slapped in the face with reality and lies way too often. 2. Elected officials forget what their job really is and they quit listening to their constituents.

It is time to represent all citizens individually not as a group, and it is time to read our constitutions (state and National). It is time to renew the dream that was once America!
